Freight Runs on Relationships.
And Proof.
This lane is for teams and producers who move real freight under real constraints: FT, LTL, drayage, ports, recovery, peaks, lanes that break when the phone goes quiet. We focus on senior operators with a record of revenue, retention, and accounts that actually ship.
Revenue Signal (What Matters)
Transportation is simple: the phone rings, freight ships, customers stay. We screen for repeatable revenue and credibility that survives rate swings.
- Named accounts (or clear vertical) with repeat freight.
- Retention story: what they kept + why.
- Monthly run-rate pattern (not one lucky quarter).
- Clean explanations under pressure: rates, capacity, service failures.
- “I can do anything” with no lane specifics.
- No retention story (all churn, all excuses).
- Only talks volume — never margin or service.
- Can’t explain why customers actually trust them.
Freight Types (FT / LTL / Drayage)
Different freight behaves differently. We don’t blend it all into “transport sales.” We speak the lane.
- FT: consistent lanes, tender discipline, service recovery.
- LTL: accessorials, claims, density, terminal reality.
- Drayage: ports, chassis, demurrage, appointment chaos.
- Knows what breaks first in their lane and how they stabilize it.
- Uses real terms: dwell, appointments, accessorials, tenders, OS&D.
- Can describe service failures without panic or fiction.
- Understands carrier fit and capacity risk.
- Knows the difference between “rate” and “relationship.”
Accounts + Retention
Anybody can win a load. The lane is about keeping freight when rates swing and service gets tested.
- Stays during tight capacity and still protects service.
- Owns mistakes: recovery plan, not finger-pointing.
- Proactive comms before customers ask.
- Knows the customer’s “can’t fail” lanes and protects them.
- Rate-only selling (relationship collapses fast).
- Service gaps hidden until the account leaves.
- No escalation path, no ops partnership.
- Promises that don’t match execution reality.
Margin Reality
The best people can talk margin without looking uncomfortable. They know when to walk away and how to protect the book.
- Sets expectations early (service + cost).
- Knows where accessorials land and why.
- Protects margin during volatility.
- Can explain pricing without drama or mystery.
- Underbidding to “win” and losing later anyway.
- Overpromising capacity on tough lanes.
- No plan for claims/OS&D and customer trust erosion.
- Weak ops handoff (sales wins, ops suffers).
Capacity + Coverage
The difference between “sales” and “operator” is whether they can actually cover the freight when it matters.
- Knows their carrier network realities.
- Has backup plans (and doesn’t pretend they don’t need them).
- Understands seasonality and lane stress points.
- Can talk drayage constraints without guessing.
- Coverage depends on “one guy” and collapses when he’s out.
- Lane complexity ignored until service breaks.
- Capacity promised without proof.
- No relationship equity when the market tightens.
Ops / Handoffs
This lane is team sport: sales + ops. If the handoff is sloppy, the account dies slowly.
- Clean notes, clean expectations, clean escalation.
- Ops knows the account before the first issue hits.
- Service metrics are real, not vibes.
- Customer updates are proactive, not reactive.
- Sales disappears after launch.
- Ops inherits surprises and gets blamed.
- No owner for claims, accessorial disputes, recoveries.
- Customer trust dies one missed update at a time.
